Why We’re Creating Editorial Work
We’ve never been interested in staying inside the lines.
Not the industry standards.
Not the trends.
Not the idea of what a photography studio is “supposed” to look like.
Creating editorial work is our way of choosing intention over repetition. Meaning over mass appeal. Experience over output. We don’t want to be another copy-and-paste studio turning out the same poses, the same sets, the same safe images week after week. There’s nothing wrong with that — it’s just not who we are.
We believe photography should feel personal.
Alive.
Different every single time.
Two people can step into the same concept and walk away with images that feel completely unique — because they are. Different energy. Different story. Different presence. That’s what excites us. That’s what keeps this work honest.
Editorial work allows us to slow down and build something real. To create experiences, not just photographs. To spend time planning, imagining, refining, and then executing with intention. These shoots aren’t rushed. They aren’t cookie-cutter. They aren’t designed to please everyone.
They’re designed to mean something.
We’re creating these projects because we want Opal & Ruby to stand for more than “pretty pictures.” We want our work to spark feeling. Conversation. Recognition. We want someone to see an image and feel something shift — even if they can’t explain why.
This isn’t a short-term hobby for us.
It isn’t a side experiment.
It’s a long-term commitment to chasing our best work.
Perfection isn’t a destination — it’s a direction. Fulfillment comes from pushing ourselves creatively, emotionally, and artistically. From refusing to stay comfortable. From building something that feels true, even if it takes longer to grow.
Editorial work is us choosing depth over speed.
Art over algorithm.
Legacy over convenience.
And if that means living a little outside the lines?
We’re more than okay with that.
